On the west side of the island overlooking the caldera (260 m high) the capital Fira dominates. The cobbled alleyways impress even the most modest guest. The white houses with the Cycladic architecture grant the feeling of relaxation and summer.

Most of hotels on the island are located in the capital with multiple facilities for every budget. Fira act as a center for excursions and visits to beaches, museums, churches and archaeological sites.

Each point of Fira is characterized by some unique element which makes every district and every neighborhood specia.

It is essential to visit two important churches, the Orthodox and the Catholic Cathedral, as well as the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Prehistoric Thira.

Of particular interest is the picturesque old port of Santorini, Mesa Gialos (Inside Bay), from which daily trips are offered for the nearby volcanic islands of Thirasia, Palea and Nea Kameni. The acccess to this old port is difficult; either one has to walk down all the stairs or use the traditional donkey. Visitors can also use the cable car, which is a special experience because of the indescribable sight.

The shops in Santorini impress with the variety of products. There are many ways of entertainment and for every taste. Visitors will discover remarkable bars for wild fun, cosmopolitan cafes, first class restaurants as well as traditional taverns and many many more.

Still, what stands out is the matchless view of the caldera and the unique sunset colors.
